This tour takes us to Kharakhorum, which was founded due to a decree of Genghis Khan and once was the center of the great Mongol Empire. Today on the site of Kharakhorum, the well-preserved Erdene Zuu, the first Lamaist monastery that was built in Mongolia in 1586 is located.
The Orkhon waterfall (Orkhony khürkhree) is situated at the end of the spectacular Orkhon valley. The area was shaped by volcanoes and by the middle of the valley a huge solidified basalt flow characterizes the landscape.
The dune field Elsen Tasarchai is located about 80km from the mountain region Khogno Khan. Through these sand dunes a small stream flows and certain types of beech trees are to be seen.
The unique taiga forest and the rocky landscapes of the Terelj National Park are ideal for hiking and horseback ridings to the tourist attractions. These include the turtle rock, the newly built monastery Terelj with a magnificent view and a romantic trip to the upper reaches of the Tuul River in the beautiful taiga forest.

1st Day Ulaanbaatar

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar. Get to know closer the capital of Mongolia, with a full-day comprehensive city tour. Sukhbaatar Square - Bogd Khan Winter Palace Museum - Zaisan monument - Buddha Park Accommodation at the hotel. (M, A)

2nd Day Terelj

First visit to the Gandan Monastery with the largest standing Buddha statue. Then drive to Terelj National Park. There is also the possibility for horse riding. Terelj is a beautiful area with mountains and forests and granite rock formations. Visit of the meditation center and the formation turtle rock. Overnight in ger camp. (B, L, D)

3rd Day Drive to Kharkhorin

Along the way you may let the inner Asian nomadic landscapes impress?t you. Overnight in Ger camp. (B, L, D)

4th Day Kharkhorin

Visit of the monastery Erdene Zuu, which is one of the first Buddhist monasteries built in the 16th century in Mongolia. In the afternoon visit yak breeders and the Genghis Khan monument in the Orkhon Valley. In the evening a musical concert by local artists is held at the restaurant. For dinner there is the Mongolian speciality Horhog (meat in the milk jug). (B, L, D)

5th Day Orkhon waterfall

Drive to Orkhon waterfall. En route visit the monastery Shanhe Khiid, formerly a place of the famous prayer Dsanabazars (Bogd Khan of Mongolia in 16 century). Hiking at the waterfall. Overnight in camp. (B, L, D)

6th Day Monastery Tuvkhun

Direction Tuvkhun monastery. This monastery is located atthe south side of the mountain Tuvkhun. From 1653 Dsanabazar lived here for 30 years to meditate and to create his famous work. Opportunities for camel or horse riding. (B, L, D)

7th Day Khogno Khan

Trip to Mountain region Khogno Khan. After arriving at the Ger camp hike through the area. You can either walk to the sand dunes or go for camel riding or horse riding. (B, L, D)

8th Day Khogno Khan

Visit of the monastery Erdene Khamb and hike to the old monastery ruins Uvgun Khiid. Afternoon with a horse-breeding family. There Airag (fermented mare's milk) may be tried-. (B, L, D)

9th Day Ulaanbaatar

Drive back to Ulaanbaatar. In town shopping and dining. Overnight at hotel. (B, L, D)

10th Day Departure

Travel to the airport. (F)
